What is padel?
Padel is a racquet sport where you use some of the walls in the game, like in Squash, where points and court lean on tennis. Padel is believed to be the fastest growing sport in Europe ever.
Dear child has many names. So does Padel. Right from Paddle concuera, paddle tennis, Padel-tennis, Padel and a simple Danish journalist In 2007 heard it as Battle-tennis. Today we just call it Padel.
Padel is largely associated with team sports, as larger groups and communities are typically formed around Padel that are reminiscent of team sports. It's not just about heart rate and adrenaline, but to a large extent also about fun, new social communities and pleasant get-togethers outside the pitch. Most centers allow you to stay in lounge areas both before and after matches.
Are you new to padel?
Getting started with Padel is easy. Most people quickly get started in a little game if everyone on the court is at roughly the same level. It is a very inclusive sport that can be played by both children, young people, the elderly and the disabled.
Padel is seen as a completely unique sport because it is easier and faster to learn than many other racquet sports. You don't need to have special strength or technique to get started and it actually trains your reaction time and reflexes. Padel also does not have to be as physically demanding as other sports. The surface is soft artificial grass and is therefore gentle on knees and hips. There is also not the same degree of physical contact between players, which can often cause injuries in more contact-demanding sports. It may be difficult to get really good at it, but you don't need to be an experienced player to have fun and get good exercise.
The padel court
A padel court is 10x20 meters and surrounded by both glass and wire fencing, with a net dividing the court in the middle. Both fences and glass can be used as part of the game.
There are courts both inside and outside. You typically play with 4 players. 2 against 2. There are also single courts where you play one against one.
Padel equipment
Padel is played with a bat that is typically made of fiberglass, carbon and carbon fiber. Often you play in padel shoes adapted to the surface on the padel courts. The ball looks like a tennis ball, but the pressure is lower in a padel ball, which gives a lower and different bounce. Many prefer to play in padel clothing designed for the sport, which allows for safe and comfortable storage of extra balls as well as free movement and stretch where you need it most. If you want to buy your own bat, it is a good idea to get guidance from your nearest padel shop.
Padel rules and games
In doubles, the game is started with an underhand serve. The two pairs take turns to serve in each game. The ball may hit the glass walls after hitting the ground once, also in its own half. The ball must go over the net before it hits the court again.
Points in padel are scored in the same way as in tennis. It is best to play out of 3 or 5 sets and in each set you must play 6 games. In a game, 0.15, 30, 40, game are counted. When it says 40-40, you must win with two games.
There may be a lot of rules to keep track of at first, but you don't have to start with them all if you just want to get started and have fun with your friends.
However, it is recommended to follow these 10 rules:
- The ball must not hit the court twice in a row on the same side of the net.
- The ball may only be hit once in each half of the court.
- You may hit the ball before it hits the ground in your own half of the court.
- The ball is out if it goes directly onto the grid walls in one's own half of the court or all walls on the opponent's side, after a hit.
- The ball may hit the glass wall several times after it has been on the floor once.
- Feel free to use the glass walls in your own half of the court as a ban to get the ball over to the opponent's side.
- You must wait to hit the ball until it is in your half of the court.
- The point is lost if you are hit by the ball directly after your opponent's stroke, or if you hit the net with your bat or body.
